Cyclist seeks kitchen ware for hurricane victims

A city in her area had adopted the small southern Mississippi River town of Pearlington and she felt compelled to volunteer. She bicycled nearly to Baton Rouge, where she caught a ride to Pearlington.

What's going on in Pearlington? Clayton James Cubitt, a New York photographer, rushed there after the hurricane. His blog — Operation Eden — tells an amazing story with incredible images of the destruction.

Helen Roberts e-mailed last night seeking donations:

I know you have all done something for the Hurricane Victims, but I am  asking you to do one more thing.
We have a big store here, on the campus, all donations, and there is lots of  food and clothing, but all the families have nothing for their  kitchens.
FEMA trailers are arriving, but are not stocked.
We all visit Walmart and drop a hundred bucks without thinking. Next  time  you go, can you buy sonething for the kitchen, for one family?

Please don't send junk from your basement. I don't want to sound ungrateful,  for any little thing sent, but these folk do not need our old stuff. They need new, working, up to date kitchens.

We cannot, and hopefully, will never, comprehend what these people are  going thru. Their lives will never, ever be the same. Their pasts are gone, their present is a hell, their future looks awful.

Please help them out, one more time.
The quicker you can do this, the better.

PS There is one old thing you can send…..extension cords. Outdoor ones, but please, in good condition. Forest fires are going to be a huge problem in the future. All the trees, that are down, which cannot be cleared away, maybe ever, are a huge hazard.

I forgot to say, please send anything UPS or Fed_EX.

Meanwhile, back at the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Wilma enter the Gulf.
