Serious cycling enthusiasts are wearing their drool bibs this week as the Interbike Expo bicycle show gets underway in Las Vegas.
The bicycle world's annual gear fest hosts about 750 companies at the Sands Convention Center where thousands of buyers and cyclists roam to ogle the products from the US, China, Taiwan, and the European Union.
The notable exception is Trek, which last month hosted its own show, featuring Lance Armstrong as a speaker.
Surfing around the 'net, it appears that dozens of bike bloggers, some associated with bike companies, are roaming the aisles at the Sands with their point-and-clicks. Others made the trek out to Hellcat Canyon for the outdoor demo for mountain and road bikes.
The most recent entry for many of the blogs I checked out include “I'm heading down to Interbike” or “We're here waiting for the show to open.” I suppose they'll check in when the event is over. But some bloggers are filing on the live action. Here's a few (in no particular order):
The Lactic Acid Threshold blogger tells about his rides on the sub 14-pound Calfee Dragon Fly and the Litespeed Ghisallo road bikes. Also lots of show pics.
Go Clipless did some trail riding at Hellcat Canyon on a few bikes, including a Nine One 9 that he messed up when the chain ring separated from the crank arms (aluminum bolts sheered).
Velogal's Race Blog tells about another side of Interbike, meeting biking celebrities. She mentions Tom Danielson and Phil Liggett, Frankie Andreau, Floyd Landis, etc., with pics.
Masiguy posts some of his own pictures, including a shaky one of Eddy Merckx, from his booth at the bike show.
Lots of bicycling websites sent writers there as well. BikeMagic has dozens of pictures of bikes from the convention center on Wednesday, as well as reviews from the dirt demo earlier in the week. CyclingNews reports include singlespeeds and 29-inchers and VeloNews features pix of such bikes as Raliegh's Public Utility Bicycle (PUB) that features a built-in bottle opener. Bicycling.com presents other products offered at the show.
By the way, the bike show is presented by VNU Expositions, which hosts trade shows as varied as a pet show in Brazil to a Marine Corps supplier show at Camp Pendleton.
