Lance Armstrong bikes hard to raise money for cancer.

Before the 7-time Tour de France winner shows up in Beaverton, Oregon, for the Portland area's first-ever Livestrong ride on Sunday, Armstrong is riding with an elite group in Calgary, Canada.

The 30 riders on the two-day bike tour paid $35,000 each to pedal along the back roads with Armstrong on Friday and Saturday. Many are from Calgary's affluent gas and oil industry. The event sponsored by the Calgary Tour of Courage Society is expected to raise about $1 million.

The Portland-area Livestrong ride is expected to draw 3,500 riders, most of whom raised pledges for cancer research for the opportunity to bicycle along with Armstrong.
