Lance Armstrong comes to Beaverton, Oregon

Lance Armstrong climbs back on the bicycle saddle for all to see this weekend in one of at least three cancer awareness fund-raising rides this fall.

The Livestrong Ride Portland begins Sunday morning, but activities at the Livestrong Village at the Nike HQ in Beaverton (near Portland) start at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon.

For Lanceophiles who want to see the 7-time Tour de France winner ride on Sunday, I'd suggest heading out to one of the “cheering stations” that will be set up along the route for friends, family and supporters. There are three cheering stations listed at the Livestrong Portland website.

Event organizers told the Oregonian that Armstrong is committed to only riding the 10-mile route. The cheering station for that route is at 158th Avenue and Jenkins Road in Beaverton, across from Merlo MAX, on the westside of the street. It's open between 9 and 11 a.m. To avoid riding on the route, motor vehicles should arrive southbound on 173rd Ave. or eastbound Baseline Rd. to 170th to decrease traffic on the northbound 10-mile route. Parking is available at the 170th Ave. Park & Ride lot.

Also, the four Livestrong bike routes are mapped out at the website; I've also copied them over to the “Oregon — Free Maps” section of Biking Bis.

In addition to the ride on Sunday, the Livestrong activities at the Nike campus include the Livestrong Village, pre-ride pasta dinner on Saturday, and a post ride party most of the day on Sunday. See the schedule at the Livestrong website for all the events.
