Spanish cyclist Roberto Heras finished more than 15 minutes behind the winner of Friday's stage in the Vuelta a Espana, but still sat comfortably in the lead.
The 88-mile bicycle race to Alcobendas ended in a three-way sprint to the finish won by 21-year-old Heinrich Haussler (Gerolsteiner). He was a part of an early breakaway of low-ranked riders that survived the day.
Heras still leads Russian Denis Menchov (Rabobank) going into the 24-mile individual time trial from Guadalajara to Alcala de Henares. Even though Menchov has won the 3-week bicycle race's two previous time trials, he has to make up a 4-minute and 30-second deficit to catch Heras.
The highest ranked US cyclist remains Tom Danielson (Discovery Channel), sitting in 9th place at 15-minutes and 50-seconds behind. Full results at CyclingNews.
