There aren't many bike paths that could be closed by a tunnel collapse. The Route of Hiawatha in Idaho is one of them.
The 15-mile crushed gravel bike path leads cyclists through 9 tunnels and 7 high-steel railroad trestles between the Montana border and the abandoned town of Roland in Idaho.
The path is the Milwaukee Railroad's old railroad bed through the Bitterroot Mountains. It operated between Illinois and Washington state from 1911 to 1961 as the Route of the Hiawatha.
The Associated Press reports that the US Forest Service closed the path after some rocks fell out of a tunnel ceiling on Saturday. Although the rocks have been removed, the trail is still closed so engineers can determine whether other tunnels are in jeopardy.
The path runs through Forest Service land in the Panhandle district and is open from May 21 to October 2 this year.
