Cadillac enters two-wheeler market

Cadillac is slapping its distinctive marque, left, on bicycles now.

The General Motors brand is appearing on a line of bicycles made by Kent International, a bicycle and bike accessory manufacturer based in Parsipanny, New Jersey.

The bicycles are available in four basic series, all-mountain, all-road, mountain and road.

Although the bikes carry the Cadillac name, they don't carry the big-car pricetag. The all-mountain series comprises two styles priced under $2,000, the single road bike, right, costs under $1,700, and the all-road and mountain bikes are priced under $600. All the bicycles styles can be viewed at the Cadillac Bicycle website.

A review at automobile.com says that Cadillac is aiming at a younger market for car buyers and has brought down the median age of its typical buyer from the upper-50s to the mid- to upper-40s with its midsize CTS sedan three years ago.

“Caddy hopes that by associating its nameplate with high-performance bicycles, it will attract younger, trendier buyers.”

Those bikes might be used as incentives to close deals on General Motors' Cadillacs or bonuses for employees or loyal customers, according to automobile.com. Also, employees can buy them using GM's 25% employee discount.
