I never considered bicycling “clothing optional,” but I'd never heard of Portland's Pedalpalooza, either.
Starting next Thursday (June 9), the two-and-a-half week Pedalpalooza bicycle festival sponsors about 100 rides and cycling activities in and around Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington. Many of the rides are family oriented, although some are strictly for adults only. Everything is clearly spelled out in the Pedalpalooza calendar.
The Shift to Bikes group in Portland has created the two-and-a-half week bicycle festival to remind us that bicycling isn't all about gears, miles covered, and fitness.
Some of the events:
A kickoff parade leaving Jamison Square at 6 p.m. Thursday;
Bike-in movie at the Laurelhurst 9 p.m. Thursday (cyclists can watch “Triplets of Belleville free);
The Real Donought Ride at 8:30 a.m. Saturday (highest net calorie intake);
World Naked Bike Ride at midnight Saturday (described as critical mass with clothing optional);
Bike scavenger hunt, June 18;
Polo, how to convert your wheels into a steed for bike polo, noon to 3 p.m. on June 19 at North Portland Bike Works;
Atomic War Preparedness Ride on June 23 begins at Hawthorne Bridge to a party at ground zero:
Multnomah County Bike Fair at Col. Summers Park on June 25 concludes Pedalpalooza and features tall-bike jousting, a marry-your-bike booth, and competitions.
