US rider David Zabriskie, riding for Team CSC, won Sunday's individual time trial at the Giro d' Italia.
You can add the name of this 25-year-old to the list of bicycle racers who could one day fill the shoes left by the expected retirement of Lance Armstrong after the Tour de France.
New to CSC this year, Zabriskie came from the US Postal team where he scored a stunning victory in a stage of the Vuelta d'Espana last year — beating the peloton in a start to finish solo breakaway. Just three weeks ago he finished second in a Tour of Georgia time trial and finished sixth in the general classification in that race.
He makes his home in Berkeley, Calif.
Two favorites to win this year's Giro, CSC teammate Ivan Basso, and Discovery Channel Pro Cycling team's Paolo Savoldelli, finished second and third on Sunday.
Overall, the high finishes in the 28-mile time trial propelled Basso and Savoldelli up to second and third place. Savoldelli's efforts on Armstrong's team (Armstrong is sitting this one out as he prepares for the Tour de France in July), have catapulted him about 25 places in just the past two days; he trails the leader by just 35 seconds.
That overall race leader is Danilo Di Luca, riding for Liquigas-Bianchi. He retains the leader's pink jersey for the third day.
