The Americans did well at the Tour of Georgia bicycle race, so it stands to reason the Italians would prosper at the Giro d' Italia this week.
Danilo Di Luca (Liquigas-Bianchi) pulled a sprint win from defending Giro champion Damiano Cunego (Lampre-Cafitta) in Tuesday's Stage 3, according to results from CyclingNews.
The finish in the 130-mile stage along the western coast of Italy between Diamante and Giffoni Valle Piana put the leader's pink jersey back on shoulders of Paolo Stage 1 winner Bettini (Quick.Step). He took it from Australian Robbie McEwen, riding for Davitamon-Lotto.
The Discovery Channel Pro Cycling team's leader, Paolo Savoldelli, maintained his position in 5th place.
