The results of the 1.15 km prologue for the Giro d'Italia on Saturday show the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling team with three bicycle riders in the top 20.
The show stealer in Reggio Calabria, however, was probably retired sprinter Mario Cipollini, who rode the time trial for old-times sake. Super Mario wore a pink skinsuit with silver veins and rode on a pink bike, according to the description in CyclingNews.
The Discovery team is well-represented at this year's Giro, even though the Boss, Lance Armstrong, is sitting out this one to train for his attempt at a seventh win in the Tour de France starting in July.
Discovery's team leader Paolo Savoldelli came in 4th, just 1 second behind the winner, Australia's Brett Lancaster (Ceramic Panaria-Navigare). Savoldelli won the Giro in 2002. Other Discovery Channel Pro Cycling team top finishers include Michael Barry (15th, Canada) and Ryder Hesjedal (18th, Canada).
The highest placing US rider, David Zabriskie, finished 20th. He rides for Team CSC.
