Belgian cyclist Tom Boonen must have used his home field advantage Sunday as he won the one-day Tour of Flanders classic in Belgium, reports VeloNews.
Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team rider George Hincapie finished seventh, about one minute behind.
Boonen, a member of the Quickstep team, attacked the lead group with about 6 miles left in the 158-mile race. Hincapie, an early favorite because team mate Lance Armstrong had pledged his support, finished first in a chase group.
Armstrong fulfilled his role, pulling along a group that included Hincapie until he tired on one of the final climbs, about 16 miles from the finish, according to Cycling News. Armstrong finished in 28th.
