Should we take Lance Armstrong at his word when he says this year's Paris-Nice is only a training ride in preparation for the Tour de France?
After three stages, Armstrong is in 62nd place of 161 riders, one-minute and 35 seconds behind the leader, QuickStep's Tom Boonen of Belgium. In today's 73-mile stage, the second one shortened because of snow (see pictures at official Paris-Nice website), Armstrong finished in 99th place.
Overall, the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team is in 13th place of 21 teams; Team CSC is in first. Armstrong's teammate Jose Luis Rubiera leads the Disco team in the general classification rankings at 47th place, one minute and 17 seconds behind the leader. Yaroslav Popovych, Ukraine, was the first Discovery team member across the finish line today, finishing in 45th.
